Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Minneapolis, Minnesota!
Minneapolis history before the mid-1800s belongs to the Dakota (Sioux) and Ojibwe Indians. The name is derived from "Minnehaha" -- Indian for laughing waters. Although the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul have grown into virtually a single entity, Minneapolis ranks as the larger metropolis bustling with greater density, while St. Paul remains the more relaxed and polished. Outdoor activities, particularly hunting and fishing, are fundamental to the region, yet the cities boast music and theater to satisfy more sophisticated urban tastes. Minneapolis prides itself on being a "land of 10,000 things to do," with four distinct seasons allowing a range of options from taking in outdoor music festivals or dining at the many sidewalk cafés to ice skating on one of the city's 22 lakes. Mill City Museum, on banks of the Mississippi River, features rides in a replica of a flour elevator, and it's also possible to ride the city's last existing streetcar at Lake Harriet. The Minneapolis Farmers Market, operating at two locations, ranks as Minnesota's laragest open-air, covered market from April through Christmas Eve. Shoppers flock from all over to the Mall of America, a tourism destination unto itself with top-rate dining and theme park thrills. Minneapolis also boasts an underwater aquarium, charter boat operators for lake cruising, plus Block E, a huge entertainment complex with an arcade, multi-screen theater, and eateries. Minneapolis - St Paul’s 30,000 plus hotel rooms range from budget to luxury, with 5,000 rooms within a mile of the convention center and 2,300 rooms attached via a climate-controlled skyway.
